The Rice Diet Program, operating since 1939, is the most cost-effective lifestyle change and health maintenance program of its kind. It costs thousands of dollars less than comparable programs.
A doctor's referral is not required to participate in the program. Program fees for new patients include a physical examination, routine lab work, orientation with dietitians, daily classes and activities, 21 meals per week and daily medical care. The weekly program fees are $2300 for the first week, $1800 for the second week, $1000 for the third week, $800 for the fourth week, and $665 per week for additional weeks. The medical staff feels that 3-6 weeks is optimal but shorter stays are fine.
Patients can begin the program on any weekday, providing there is an appointment available. Most patients prefer to arrive the day/evening prior to their initial appointment so they may settle in prior to the next full day of activities. Minors may attend the Program, but adult supervision is required.
We are happy to assist you in making travel arrangements and accommodations. Many area hotels and corporate apartment complexes offer our patients very reduced rates. We can provide you with information about the best places to stay, the cost and what is specifically available based on your arrival date.
In most cases, walking is encouraged as an excellent long-term exercise option. All of the housing options that we recommend offer in-house workout facilities and some have pools. Some patients prefer to go to a full-scale exercise facility, all of which are located within easy driving distance of The Rice House and offer reduced rates for our patients. We will provide you with information about those alternatives as well.
The Program fee is payable the day you begin and is not covered by Medicare or private insurance companies. The program fees may be eligible for payment through your flex account/medical spending account so please check with your company's human resources department regarding reimbursement. It's also advisable to check with your accountant to see if the Program fees are tax deductible based on your individual circumstances (IRS Ruling 202-19).
Any additional necessary evaluations, including X-ray, ECG, specialty consultation or laboratory evaluation not included in routine studies, are not covered by Program fees. Your insurance company and/or Medicare may cover these evaluations. While classes and support groups are included in the Program fees, optional private individual therapy and occasional workshops are optional and additional.
Lodging costs are not included in the Program fees. We are happy to assist you with appropriate housing based on your needs.
